Resume
We are St John Ambulance Cymru and we are the first aid charity for Wales.
Established in 1918 we’re proud to say that our volunteers have been there for some of Wales’ toughest times – but also for some of the best. We’ve been there: from supporting at the Aberfan disaster to being pitch side caring for supporters as Wales won their 10th Grand Slam.
In our history we provided the first ambulance service for Wales. Now supported by over 4,000 volunteers we continue to deliver frontline services. These include first aid treatment, training, and transport in the heart of Welsh communities. We are proud to work alongside our emergency services providing vital support when they need extra help. Every year we care for over 9,000 people who need us.
Over half of our volunteers are under the age of 18, and we're proud to provide opportunities and youth programmes for children and young people. Our programmes teach vital first aid skills, develop young people’s aspirations, and enhance their education. We create an environment where people can grow and learn from an early age, providing the perfect springboard for our healthcare professionals of the future.
St John Ambulance Cymru also teaches training courses at its training centres across Wales. It offers over 30 courses across first aid, health & safety, and mental health. In the UK, St John Ambulance is one of the voluntary aid societies (VAS) who are recognised by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) as standard setters for first aid training in accordance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) regulations 1981. We don't require external accreditation through an Awarding Organisation. Proceeds from the training help to fund the organisations charity work.
