New Integrated Optical Tweezer Enables Trapping of Beads and Cells
October 5, 2024
Researchers used integrated optical phased array technology to develop a type of integrated optical tweezers system, akin to a miniature, chip-based “tractor beam,” that might in the future help scientists study DNA, classify cells, and investigate the mechanisms of disease.
The team says that while traditional optical tweezer technology usually requires bulky microscope setups, their chip-based technology could offer a more compact, mass manufacturable, broadly accessible, and high-throughput solution for optical manipulation in biological experiments.
